The Remix Project
On top of everything, this week was packed outside of the remix. I had a meeting with my work-study team about the two-day event I’m part of, Tri-C Downbeat. I helped put on the masterclass and concert that Friday before the project deadline, taking on roles like sign creation, talent liaison, and event floater. It was inspiring, but it definitely added to an already hectic schedule.
Saturday was another full day — I had a studio session with the artist I’ve been working with for the past year and a half. We’re finally finishing up her record, which feels incredibly rewarding after all this time. That evening, I had a photo shoot for promotional assets, so it was a full creative day from start to finish.
Sunday and Monday kicked off the week with two 10-hour shifts at Amazon, which definitely tested my energy levels. Balancing long workdays with creative deadlines hasn’t been easy, but it’s all part of the process right now.
As for the remix — I had scheduled a piano player to collaborate with me, but unfortunately, some technical difficulties kept us from recording. Though we didn’t get to lay down any tracks this time, I’m still excited for the contributions he’ll bring when we finally get the session done. His subtle nuances will add a lot to the emotional depth of the remix.
In the meantime, I’ve been producing the current version of the track myself, including playing the piano. I started with just the vocal stems and began experimenting with some new arrangements. I pulled back some of the harmonies in the verses to give the chorus more space and allow it to feel bigger. From the start, I knew I wanted this remix to be stripped down and emotionally intense. When you scale back the electronic production, the story in the lyrics really comes through. The raw vocals paired with the piano created such an intimate, captivating listening experience.
I added sub-bass and soft pads to lift the chorus, giving it more depth and drama while keeping the emotional core intact. It’s been a balance between keeping things minimal and still allowing the song to evolve dynamically.
For the final version of the remix, I’m planning to track a real piano and layer in more production — probably some light percussion, subtle drums, and maybe even some orchestral elements like violin, cello, or harp. I want the song to continue evolving, but still capture the magic that made this remix feel special in the first place.
